Integrating Agent Services into BPEL4WS Defined Workflows

چکیده
In the future, Web services and software agents will coexist in the Business Process Management solution space. In our vision, agents will have symbiotic relationships with Web services, harnessing them as externally defined agent behaviors. In this paper we detail the development of a demonstration system that transparently integrates agent services into BPEL4WS defined workflows. The development of the demonstration system illustrates the power of compositional approaches to system creation. It also serves to reinforce the importance of open standards, since the integration of the separate components is dependent upon the interoperability that standards provide. This work is an important first step toward fully integrated agent-based workflow management systems.

Automatic Web Service Selection Using Ontology and Quality of Service
We develop a framework for integrating bioinformatics tools based on Semantic Web technology. Specifications of abstract workflows are expressed in Business Process Execution Language for Web Services (BPEL4WS). A problem-solving agent is responsible for automatic analyzing and discovering the web services in the abstract workflows, and selecting among them in order to optimize the quality of s...
متن کاملEnacting the Distributed Business Workflows Using BPEL4WS on the Multi-agent Platform
This paper describes the development of a distributed multi-agent workflow enactment mechanism using the BPEL4WS[1] specification. It demonstrates that a multi-agent protocol (Lightweight Coordination Calculus (LCC)[8]) can be used to interpret a BPEL4WS specification to enable distributed business workflow[5] using web services[2] composition on the multi-agent platform. The key difference bet...
متن کاملA Novel Approach for Web Services Composition and Verification
Web services are a very appropriate communication mechanism to perform distributed business processes among several organizations. A concept of service composition, combining existing Web services easily as our needs change, is one of the key features of the technology. Many new standards have been defined to solve web service composition problem, for example BPEL4WS. BPEL4WS provides an initia...
متن کاملExpressing Business Process Models as OWL-S Ontologies
BPEL4WS is a well-established business process standard that can be used to orchestrate service-based workflows. However, the rapid growth and automation demands of e-business and grid applications require BPEL4WS to provide enhanced semantic annotations to achieve the goal of business processes automation. Here, OWL-S (OWL for Web Services) is designed to represent such kind of semantic inform...
متن کاملUsing multi-agent platform for pure decentralised business workflows
This paper describes the development of a distributed multi-agent workflow enacting mechanism starting from a BPEL4WS[BPE03] specification. Our work demonstrates that a multi-agent protocol (Lightweight Coordination Calculus)[Rob04] can be derived from a BPEL4WS specification to enable pure decentralised business workflows. The key difference between our work and other existing multi-agent base...
